The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) has announced that Georgetown University ranked among the top 100 universities holding utility patents in 2024.

Released in April 2025, the rankings showcase the important research and innovation taking place within academic institutions.

The Top 100 U.S. Universities List is one of three annual rankings published by the National Academy of Inventors. All ranking lists can be accessed through the NAI Website Rankings menu.

“Recognition from the National Academy of Inventors reflects the breadth and depth of research at Georgetown,” said Jeffrey Urbach, vice provost for research at Georgetown, and professor and interdisciplinary chair in science in the department of physics. “We are pleased to be included alongside the esteemed institutions in this group.”

The Academy has been releasing the Top 100 Universities worldwide rankings based on calendar year data provided by the United States Patent and Trademark Office since 2013. Last year, the academy added the Top 100 U.S. Universities to highlight the essential role that nationwide universities play in creating patented technologies that beneficially impact society.
