ABOUT THE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE LICENSING WORKSHOP
October 6, 2009
Georgetown University
At a time when increasing emphasis in the public and the private sectors is being focused on approaches to socially responsible licensing, this all-day conference will provide technology transfer professionals with a thorough overview and in-depth discussion of accomplishments to date, lessons learned, and proposed approaches. Panels of highly experienced and renowned practitioners will present examples and insights into what has worked, what hasn't and what changes are on the horizon. Attendees will have ample networking opportunities, and will be provided with a tool kit of resources to apply to their licensing practices. The day will include speaker presentations, two panels and Q&A sessions, breakfast, lunch and a closing reception.
The workshop will include participants from academia, foundations, government, and industry, and topics will include:
• goals for socially responsible licensing
• constraints and frameworks which may limit or shape the approaches adopted by different stakeholders
• current issues as they have surfaced through recent efforts in socially responsible licensing
• development of toolkits for universities interested in establishing socially responsible practices and policies.
The two-session workshop will review stakeholder perspectives and the current status of licensing with regard to access, and will include discussions of deals, programs and business models that foster social responsibility. Specific contract provisions and practices that support successful outcomes for licensing will also be addressed.
